Nine colors are inspired by real vegetables and fruits, while the distinctive blue shade is created using Japanese indigo, a traditional natural material that gives the set its signature Japan Blue character. Together, they create a palette that feels soft, earthy, and beautifully different from conventional crayons.

Gentle colors, made from vegetables and rice

The Vegetable Crayon 10 Color Set brings together creativity, nature, and thoughtful design. Made in Japan, these crayons are produced using upcycled rice bran oil and rice wax, together with finely powdered vegetables and fruits. Their soft, natural shades are inspired by ingredients that might otherwise never reach the market. This includes produce that is perfectly usable but rejected because it is too small, too large, irregular in shape, or left over during food processing.

Instead of going to waste, these ingredients are given a new purpose as color.

Giving natural ingredients a second life

Different colors come from different plant-based ingredients.

For example:

• Apple color is made using apple peel left over from dried apple chip production.
• Green onion color uses green parts and off-grade produce that may be removed during preparation for shipment.
• Paprika color is made using produce that does not meet conventional retail standards.

With the support of farmers and food producers, many other vegetable and fruit ingredients are also collected and transformed into crayons. It is a simple idea, but a meaningful one: using what already exists, reducing waste, and creating something new.

Made for little hands

Vegetable Crayons are designed to be comfortable for children to hold. They are made to resist becoming sticky in warm hands and are strong enough to withstand firm gripping. Because they contain real vegetable and fruit powders, the texture may feel slightly different from ordinary crayons. You may notice a subtle graininess while drawing, and sometimes even a faint natural scent.

That is part of what makes them special.

Their colors are soft, warm, and gentle rather than overly bright or artificial.

Carefully selected color ingredients

To support the natural colors of the vegetable powders, only carefully selected additional color materials are used. Every ingredient is chosen to be safe, even if a crayon accidentally ends up in a child’s mouth. The crayons have passed testing under EN 71-3, the European toy safety standard relating to the migration of certain elements. The added colour ingredients are based on components also used in food coloring. The crayons are made with carefully selected materials, but they are not food and should not be eaten or swallowed.

Young children should always use them under adult supervision.

Thoughtful packaging

The packaging uses FSC-certified paper, sourced from responsibly managed forests and recycled materials. From production to final assembly, the crayons are made in Japan.

Care and Safety

This product is not food. Do not place the crayons in the mouth or swallow them, as they may present a choking hazard. Young children should use the product under adult supervision. Because of the natural characteristics of the ingredients, a powdery surface or small cracks may occasionally appear. This does not necessarily indicate a defect. Store away from direct sunlight, high temperatures, and high humidity.
